What 2/10 Net 30 means

"2/10 Net 30" offers the buyer a 2% discount if the invoice is paid within 10 days of the invoice date. Otherwise the full amount is due within 30 days. Both periods are normally calendar days. Other combinations follow the same pattern: 1/10 Net 30 is a 1% discount for paying within 10 days, and 2/10 EOM counts from the end of the month (see EOM terms).

Worked example (United States holidays)

An invoice for $10,000 dated Tuesday, December 1, 2026 on 2/10 Net 30:

If a deadline lands on a weekend or holiday, the calculator moves it to the next business day by default. Contracts sometimes say the discount must be received by the deadline, so allow time for the payment to settle.

Is taking the discount worth it?

Skipping a 2/10 Net 30 discount means paying 2% more to keep your cash for 20 extra days. As an annual rate that is about 2/98 × 365/20 ≈ 37%. That is far above most borrowing costs, which is why accounts payable teams usually try to capture these discounts, and why missing the discount date by one day is expensive. The formula for any term is: discount ÷ (100 − discount) × 365 ÷ (net days − discount days).

Tracking discount dates at scale

A payment run with hundreds of invoices on different terms is where mistakes happen. The DueDate API returns the discount date and net due date for each invoice, and a batch endpoint accepts a CSV file. See also the Net 30 calculator and the business days calculator.

The same calculation is available as a JSON API, so you can run it inside an accounting, ERP or workflow system. Get a free API key (1,000 requests a month) or read the OpenAPI spec.

Holiday data comes from an open-source dataset and may be incomplete, especially for regional, ad-hoc or newly declared holidays. Check legally or financially critical deadlines against an official source.
