Choosing the right region
Bank holidays differ across the UK. Select United Kingdom and enter a region code: eng for England, sct for Scotland, wls for Wales or nir for Northern Ireland. Set the region so that region-specific bank holidays are included.
Worked examples (England)
- December 1 to December 31, 2026: 20 working days. Christmas Day (Friday, December 25) and the Boxing Day substitute holiday (Monday, December 28) are skipped. (Prefilled above.)
- 5 working days after Friday, December 18, 2026 is Tuesday, December 29, 2026.
Counting all of 2026 gives 253 working days in England and 252 in Scotland, where January 2 is also a bank holiday.

Frequently asked questions
Are bank holidays the same across the UK?
No. Scotland and Northern Ireland have some different bank holidays from England and Wales, so pick the region that applies.
What happens when a bank holiday falls on a weekend?
A substitute weekday is usually given, for example Monday, December 28, 2026 for Boxing Day. The calculator skips the substitute day.
